The folks who make the Spotlight GPS pet locator are launching their own iPhone app today.
Spotlight is a device that was introduced last year by Raleigh company Positioning Animals Worldwide (that would be PAW for those of you who like acronyms...)
The device is the size of a business card and attaches to your pet's collar. It uses satellites and GPS technology to give you a GPS location for it at any time. You can set up safe zones like your yard or driveway and set the device to send you an alert if Fido strays beyond the boundaries you've established. Or, if your pet gets lost, Spotlight can give you an accurate location with turn-by-turn directions if you have a smart phone.
The unit costs $249.99 and there's a monthly service fee like a cell phone plan. Now you can add the iPhone app to the lineup for even more minute-by-minute pet tracking capabilities. The app is free, and you can get it here.
