A commercial bakery is moving into Johnston County with plans to create 84 jobs and invest $25.4 million.
Northeast Foods, which supplies buns to McDonald's, will build a bakery in Clayton to serve the Golden State Foods distribution center in Garner and another in Lexington, S.C.
Northeast will receive a $350,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund, which requires matching grants from communities.
Northeast, based in Maryland, is privately-owned and has five operating facilities in the United States.
Jobs for the Johnston County facility will have an average annual wage of $41,815, according to the announcement from the governor's office. The county's average annual wage is $31,408. Jobs will be created over a two-year period.
"This expansion will allow us to continue to provide the highest quality products to McDonald's and its customers in this part of the U.S.," company president Bill Paterakis said in a statement.

Let me get this straight...
Mon, 02/22/2010 - 14:48 — TheLibertineNC taxpayers footed the bill for $350,000 in corporate welfare for what is likely to be 84 minimum wage jobs. Additionally, NC taxpayers will probably have to continue to offset said minimum wage job holders with social services including health care and food stamps.
Well ain't that a lovely story!
minimum wage
