Awesome Products, laundry detergent and cleaning products manufacturer, will build a facility in Mount Airy and create 90 jobs over the next three years.
The company will invest $22 million in the facility which will be about 140 miles northwest of Raleigh. Workers will make household chemicals such as bleach, degreasers and cleaners. The plant will also serve as a distribution center for customers in the Northeast and Southeast.
The company will receive $300,000 from the One North Carolina Fund if fulfills job creation requirements, according to a statement from the governor's office. Under the One Fund, local communities must make a matching grant. If it creates 140 jobs over five years it will receive additional incentives from Surry County and the city of Mt. Airy.
The average annual wages for the new jobs will be $33,611, plus benefits. The average annual wage in Surry County is $30,456.
Awesome Products is based in Buena Vista, Calif. The company makes it own brand of cleaning products which are sold in dollar stores and to some private-label manufacturers.
Awesome has manufacturing facilities in California, Arkansas and Tennessee.
