Former Durham Planning Commissioner Wendy Jacobs has registered a campaign committee with the Board of Elections, confirming expectations she would run for county commissioner.
"I have officially done that," Jacobs (right) said Tuesday.
Former County Commissioner Becky Heron recommended Jacobs to fill out her term when she retired last summer. The commissioners, though, chose Pam Karriker, who said at the time she would not stand for election this year.
Jacobs declined to specify a campaign platform.
"That, I'm not ready to discuss," she said.
Jacobs is a project manager with Unique Places, an environmental consulting firm. She is the third candidate to confirm an intention to run.
Sheriff's Capt. Rickey Padgett announced his intentions in March 2011, and reiterated them in a September email to supporters. Duke University biologist Will Wilson registered a campaign committee in August and has a campaign web site (www.ww4cc.com) and Facebook page (http://on.fb.me/tx9dij).
Like Jacobs, Padgett and Wilson applied for the board vacancy after Heron's departure.
None of the incumbents have announced whether they will seek re-election. Candidate filing opens Feb. 13.
