If you frequent the area of Fayetteville Road and N.C. 54 you have Bull's Eye's sympathies — and you've no doubt noticed construction going on at the northwest corner, that narrow, formerly tree-covered lot the City of Durham surplus-property office tried for years to unload.
Well, somebody bought, and now some good Durham folk are in a stew about what's coming there.
Adam & Eve.
Yes, the sex-wares emporium that got its start in Chapel Hill back in the swingin' early '70s (if you can remember, you weren't there) is about to open in Durham — right in full view of motorists crossing the southern part of town on 54 and pulling into town off I-40.
Welcome to Durham. The prospect has raised hackles, on City Councilman Howard Clement for one, and for another on the 848 good citizens who have (as of last count) signed a petition to keep Adam & Eve away from our family-valued community. See http://www.PetitionOnline.com/savesdur/petition.html.
City Attorney Patrick Baker told the council last week there's nothing in Durham law to keep Adam & Eve from opening wherever zoning allows. But in Durham, where civic life is a participant sport, we'll just wait and see.
Perhaps a plain brown wrapper?
