Road advisories

Bridges in Durham County are "becoming an issue" for drivers, according to the Durham County sheriff's office, which advises residents, "Stay home unless necessary to venture out."

About 1.25 inches of snow fell in northern Durham overnight, with a film of ice underneath.

In southern Durham, Ricky Buchanan of the sheriff's office reported, the intersection of Scott King and Herndon Roads is "a sheet of ice."

Buchanan also advises that motorists should avoid:
  • The Old Oxford Highway (Old 75) and Jock Road, in northern Durham County between Staggville Road and the Flat River. The pavement is slippery and there are a number of vehicles in the ditch.
  • Moores Mill Rd approaching U.S. 501 south of Rougemont is iced and vehicles are unable to stop at the intersection. U.S. 501 north from Moores Mill Road to Person County line has become treacherous as well as the intersection of Guess Rd and S. Lowell Rd is dangerous as well.
  • Near the Research Triangle Park, the intersection of TW Alexander @ S. Alston is extremely slick.
  • Sherron Rd between Holder Rd and Honeycutt Rd is a sheet of ice.  Avoid if possible.

For information on road conditions, citizens should call 560-0897 instead of the sheriff's emergency line.
