The Durham staff of The News & Observer works the Bull City to dig up the news and tell its stories. Read here about insider stuff that fills their notebooks but doesn't always make the paper.
If you'd just as soon not be one of the 4 million people expected to jam the District of Columbia for President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration, you can celebrate right here in Bull City.
Golden Belt, the remodeled textile factory off East Main Street, is hosting a "Durham for Obama Inaugural Celebration" on Inauguration Day.
According to event planner Lori Jones Tyson, the affair runs from 6 to 10 p.m. in Building 2 and involves refreshments, music and a large-screen TV. No charge, but those attending are asked to bring canned goods for the "Yes We Cans" food drive — and let the hosts know they're coming. Attendance is limited to 800.
