City Hall has called off solid-waste pickup Monday due to unsafe streets, spokeswoman Beverly B. Thompson said this afternoon.

Bulky-item and yard-waste pickup has been called off on Tuesday as well. Department management will decide on Tuesday solid-waste collection after assessing Monday's street conditions, and then announce make-up plans.

According to Thompson, street conditions are improving this afternoon, but snowmelt is slow because temperatures remain near freezing. Street crews have repeatedly cleared thoroughfares since precipitation began Friday night, and estimate that they have salted or cleared about 60 percent of the secondary roads.

Residential-street clearing may start Monday, depending on conditions.
