The Durham staff of The News & Observer works the Bull City to dig up the news and tell its stories. Read here about insider stuff that fills their notebooks but doesn't always make the paper.

Everyone likes a good love story

Fact: Romance novels are some of the most popular items that the Durham County Library lends out each year.

(I think that means they are not just a guilty pleasure anymore, but something people love to talk about.)

So get out your favorite love stories and join the Durham County Library on Sunday at the second annual Romance Tea, where four local romance authors will talk about how they craft their stories, and what makes a good one.

The authors: Diane Chamberlain, Virginia Kantra, Jenna Black and Elizabeth Amber.

The event begins at 3 p.m. at the Southwest Branch at 3605 Shannon Road. The talk and refreshments are free, but registration is required by calling 560-0268 or visiting the library's Web site.

More about the authors:

Diane Chamberlain, author of nine novels, often writes stories that combine romance, family drama, intrigue and suspense, including the recent release, The Secret Life Of CeeCee Wilkes.

Virginia Kantra, USA Today bestselling author, has created the Children of the Sea series, which combines Celtic legend with the islands of contemporary Maine.

Jenna Black and Elizabeth Amber both write in the subgenre of Paranormal Romance – Black’s books feature vampires and demons, and Amber’s books feature satyrs, which have their roots in Greek mythology.
