Durham library site gets a makeover

As I logged on to check the status of my overdue fines at the Durham library (I'm a bad citizen, I know) I realized that I forgot to blog about the library's new Web site and content, plus the recommendations they're offering to avid readers.

"We’ve got lots of new content. Our children and teen pages have been completely redesigned, and we’ve enhanced our Spanish-language pages," Director Skip Auld said in a news release last week.

The new site also features NextReads, an electronic newsletter subscription service that provides reading suggestions for adults and children in more than 20 categories, including fiction and nonfiction, on a monthly or bimonthly basis.

“Our customers frequently ask us to recommend books for them to read. NextReads puts that information at their fingertips,” Auld said in the release.

Library staff take note of the books being recommended to ensure they have enough copies, the release said.

The redesign also marks the launch of the library director’s blog: Durham by the Book. In addition to writing about the inner workings of the library, Auld will show visitors the progress of the Southwest and South Regional libraries as the two projects are being built.

“The blog is another opportunity for us to hear from the community,” Auld said in the news release. “We want everyone’s input and ideas about the great things happening at the library. Our goal is to use that feedback to make the library even better.”
