Recent primary winner Fred Foster received the Durham County Democratic Party’s recommendation Thursday night to fill Joe Bowser’s vacated county commissioner's seat.
The party’s Executive Committee met Thursday night at Mount Vernon Baptist Church to recommend to the Board of County Commissioners who should take the seat. Foster, former county commissioner Philip Cousin, and Democratic primary commissioner candidates Anita Daniels and Elaine Hyman were nominated.
Foster emerged the clear winner after a weighted vote by precinct chairs and vice chairs, along with other members of the Executive Committee.
Bowser resigned the day after he finished seventh in the 14-person May 8 Democratic primary for five seats on the Board of County Commissioners.
Since then, many, including Wendy Jacobs who placed third in the primary, have come forward saying Foster, who placed second behind incumbent Ellen Reckhow, should take the seat.
Commissioners Chairman Michael Page said the board may discuss how it wants to move forward Monday, but it probably won't appoint someone until its June 11 or June 25 meeting.
