County Swap Shop reopens tomorrow

A county-run “Swap Shop” that lets you recycle used furniture, electronics and other items that would otherwise head to a landfill will reopen Wednesday after being closed since 2008 because of misuse.

The Durham County Swap Shop is located at the Redwood Solid Waste and Recycling Convenience Site at Redwood Road and Electra Road.  The shop closed because people dropped off too many items that were soiled, broken or did not work.

The shop will be open Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 4 pm.  All visitors to the shop must sign-in with the site attendant and let the attendant know what items are being left in the Swap Shop.

For a detailed list of acceptable items that may be left at the Swap Shop, click here or call the Durham County General Services Department at 560-0430. For directions or information about the reopening of the Durham County Swap Shop, contact the Redwood Solid Waste and Recycling Convenience Site at 682-8200.
