DeShawna C. Gooch, a Durham Public Schools administrator and former Wake County principal, has been appointed principal of Chewning Year-Round Middle School.
Gooch was appointed at tonight's school board meeting. She has been the coordinator of college access programs for the district for the last year. Before that, she was assistant principal of Holly Springs High in Wake County for four years.
"As a product of Durham Public Schools, I'm honored to give back to the community that has given me so much," said Gooch, at tonight's meeting.
Gooch taught at at Durham Tech and was an academc adviser at N.C. State, too. She taught math at Shepard Magnet Middle School in Durham for three years. She holds degrees from N.C. State and North Carolina Central University.
