Campus Drive bridge project will block Main Street

Bookmark and Share

Those wonderful folks at NCDOT are planning to rebuild the Main Street bridge over Campus Drive, meaning that Main Street between Buchanan Boulevard and Swift Avenue is going to be closed for about a year.

City Councilman Mike Woodard said word of the bridge replacement is "starting to get out to our commuter community. ... The anxiety is starting to rise."

Not without reason. "There's a fair amount of traffic on there and there's not a convenient detour," Ahrendsen said.

"I hope there's a good reason to replace that bridge," said City Councilman Eugene Brown. "This is going to create havoc."

Main Street Bridge

Swell combination with the possible closing of the Swift Ave. rail  crossing.  Now shut  down just a few other  access routes and  Duke's East Campus will be marooned.  Obviously this is a UNC plot!
