South Johnston High standout running back Tony Davis will sign a national letter of intent to attend Fayetteville State on a football scholarship on Wednesday morning. Davis compiled more than 5,000 yards rushing in his career for the Trojans.
He is the second Trojan to announce his college plans. Teammate Caleb Lucas is signing with the Naval Academy on Wednesday as well.
Davis will join Clayton's Juwan Williams in the Bronco blue next fall. Williams is also signing on Wednesday.
Look for full coverage of all the area signings in next week's print editions of The Herald of Johnston County and the Garner-Clayton Record.
D. Clay Best has served as the sports editor of The Herald since 1997 and has covered high school sports since 1992. He's gone through many neighborhoods of NFL-fandom including the Cowboys, Raiders and Patriots and is in limbo right now. If that's not enough to require therapy, he also has way too much brain space filled with useless info on the legendary '80s TV series "Miami Vice."
