Things start to heat up in the middle of October on the prep sports fall scene.
First up on the state playoff level is vollyeball, which begins on Saturday, and four Johnston County teams are set to participate: Smithfield-Selma, which is making its first playoff appearance in at least a decade, South Johnston, Princeton and Carolina 1-A Conference regular-season champion North Johnston.
We'll update the pairings and playoff plans as soon as they're announced.
