North Johnston earns spot in JUSA Cup finals

Bookmark and Share

North Johnston advanced to the finals of the Johnston United Soccer Association Cup boys prep soccer tournament tonight with a 1-0 victory over South Johnston. North will meet either West Johnston or Clayton in the Cup finals at a date to be determined later.

Rain forced the postponement of Clayton's first round match against Corinth Holders until tonight. The Comets downed the Pirates 9-0 in that match.

North's Tyler Williams scored on a rebound shot. Panthers' goalkeeper Sean Mangum had four key saves against the Trojans down the stretch.

Thursday's schedule of matches at Smithfield-Selma includes two consolation round matches and the Clayton vs. West Johnston semifinal. Corinth Holders meets Cleveland at 4 p.m., followed by Princeton vs. Smithfield-Selma.

The Clayton-West Johnston semifinal will begin at about 8 p.m.

About the blogger

D. Clay Best has served as the sports editor of The Herald since 1997 and has covered high school sports since 1992. He's gone through many neighborhoods of NFL-fandom including the Cowboys, Raiders and Patriots and is in limbo right now. If that's not enough to require therapy, he also has way too much brain space filled with useless info on the legendary '80s TV series "Miami Vice."
