North Johnston High student Will Shearin is through to the round of 16 in the N.C. Junior Boys Championship in Greenville. The tournament shifted to a match play format after one day of qualifying.
The rising junior has advanced with a pair of narrow victories.
Shearin defeated Taylorsville's Matt Foster 1 up in the opening round, then beat Harold Varner III on the 20th hole to move into today's round of 16.
Smithfield resident Patrick Sawrey also qualified for the match play portion of the event but fell to Evan Boyer of Raleigh 4 and 2 in the opening round.
