Maybin to miss Southern League All-Star Game

Bookmark and Share

Asheville native Cameron Maybin will not play in the Southern League All-Star Game, Carolina Mudcats' manager Matt Raleigh said on Sunday. Maybin, the 'Cats starting center fielder, suffered a back injury while swinging during Thursday night's game in Jacksonville and has not played since.

"We're going to hold off on him until right after the All-Star break," Raleigh said of Maybin.

Maybin, a key part of the trade that sent former Mudcats Miguel Caberra and Dontrelle Willis to the Tigers during the off-season, was one of six Mudcats named to the Northern Division roster for next Monday's Southern League All-Star Game. The game will be played at Five County Stadium in Zebulon.

About the blogger

D. Clay Best has served as the sports editor of The Herald since 1997 and has covered high school sports since 1992. He's gone through many neighborhoods of NFL-fandom including the Cowboys, Raiders and Patriots and is in limbo right now. If that's not enough to require therapy, he also has way too much brain space filled with useless info on the legendary '80s TV series "Miami Vice."
