Best Blog covers the sports scene in and around Johnston County and Garner, including the Carolina Mudcats. The blog is compiled by D. Clay Best, the sports editor of The Herald of Johnston County and the Garner-Clayton Record.
It's a warmer than expected 45 degrees and beautifully sunny here in Gibbs Stadium on the campus of Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C. as pregame activities get rolling for the annual battle between the best prep football stars of North Carolina and South Carolina.
Kick off is set for 1 p.m.
South Carolina's won the last two in the series and leads the all-time series, 40-28-4.
We'll be keping a keen eye on the Triangle-area stars today:
Josh Snead of Smithfield-Selma
Dee Williams of South Johnston
T.J. Ross and A.J. Marshall of Southern Durham
Carson Moss of Leesville Road
Anthony Johnson of Harnett Central
Athens Drive lineman Robert Crisp was selected for the game but was an injury scratch.
D. Clay Best has served as the sports editor of The Herald since 1997 and has covered high school sports since 1992. He's gone through many neighborhoods of NFL-fandom including the Cowboys, Raiders and Patriots and is in limbo right now. If that's not enough to require therapy, he also has way too much brain space filled with useless info on the legendary '80s TV series "Miami Vice."
