Garner's Richard Medlin was a big part of the New England's scoring fest Thursday night as the NFL exhibition season opened. Medlin ran for two touchdowns in the Patriots' 47-12 victory over Jacksonville.
Medlin, a 2006 graduate of Garner, carried the ball 12 times for 54 yards and scored on a pair of 2-yard runs. His longest gain was 17 yards.
Medlin signed a free agent rookie contract with the Patriots earlier this month after a solid career as a running back and kick returner at Fayetteville State.
The 47 points scored is the most the Patriots have scored in an exhibition game since the 1990s.
