Cleveland vs. North Johnston game to resume at 7 tonight

Bookmark and Share

The prep football game between North Johnston and Cleveland will be completed tonight (Monday) at 7, resuming with Cleveland ahead 21-20 and 2:21 to play in the third quarter, according to a Johnston County Schools officials.

The game was stopped by mutual agreement of both schools on Friday after a heavy thunderstorm and lightning pounded the North Johnston campus. The teams agreed to call the game a no contest and not count it on either team's record. But the N.C. High School Athletic Association says any game that completes a half play is a complete game.

Neither team has an open date on its schedule to move the game to another Friday night. The NCHSAA moved to an 11 games in 11 weeks football schedule this year after giving teams 12 weeks to play 11 (or 10) games in previous seasons. Unless a team forgoes an endowment game, it doesn't have a bye week this season.

There will be no admission charge at the gate.

About the blogger

D. Clay Best has served as the sports editor of The Herald since 1997 and has covered high school sports since 1992. He's gone through many neighborhoods of NFL-fandom including the Cowboys, Raiders and Patriots and is in limbo right now. If that's not enough to require therapy, he also has way too much brain space filled with useless info on the legendary '80s TV series "Miami Vice."
