Greater Neuse River 4-A Conference co-champions Clayton and Smithfield-Selma will both open the NCHSAA 4-A dual team tennis playoffs Tuesday afternoon. The Comets and Spartans split their two regular-season matchups.
Clayton drew the No. 1 seed and will host Wilmington Hoggard, while SSS will play at Southern Pines Pinecrest.
D. Clay Best has served as the sports editor of The Herald since 1997 and has covered high school sports since 1992. He's gone through many neighborhoods of NFL-fandom including the Cowboys, Raiders and Patriots and is in limbo right now.
