Who are you?

So who was the much-rumored mystery "special guest" supposedly waiting backstage at last Saturday's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concert in Cary? And whoever it was, why didn't he (or she, or they) perform?

Good questions, and I don't have definitive answers. But here's the next best thing.

French protests too much

Yes the hall of fame benefit less than satisfying over all. Yes it was over hyped as a line up of major acts when, with a few notable exceptions (Jack Bruce, Dave Mason and Alan White) it was filled with sidemen from AOR bands from the seventies. And yes there was no tribute to the Who to end the show. But if you payed attention to the whole series of events leading up to this thing, you would have noticed that there were a lot of half truths with no firm commitments on any aspect. "It's gonna be great....no I can't tell you who will be there...just go". But Rick French is taking this too far when defending this show. He didn't confirm or deny rumors of a special guest, which he may have created, and still won't admit that it was less than what was hinted at. Take it somewhere else next year.

What happened?

Yup, I'll certainly be talking about that encore for the rest of my life. 6 months of hype, and nothing. Not even a special guest at the Afterparty. The musicians were fantastic, the planning suckedballs.

Rick French

Isn't it ironic that the president of the largest PR agency in town comes out of this looking like kind of a fool...
