Sister doin' it for herself: Shelby Lynne

Bookmark and Share

In the future, there will be no record companies. Singer Shelby Lynne is kind of already there. After years of recording for major labels, Lynne took the plunge into the do-it-yourself world this past April and released her latest album via her own label. And she's already got her next record coming out next month, a Christmas album. When I dialed her up for an interview recently, in fact, copies of the Christmas album had just arrived.

"I'm looking at it right now," Lynne said. "Seeing the actual thing for the first time is still a thrill, for sure. It's even more of one now, really, because it's all up to me. Being my own record company means I'm responsible for everything. It's a lot of work, but that's okay. At least I know that something's getting done. And doing it yourself, you can usually expect some kind of return."

For more, including details about her upcoming Carrboro show, see the interview in Friday's paper.
