On the Beat

On the Beat: David Menconi on music

News & Observer music critic David Menconi's random (and we do mean random) musings about all things related to music and culture of the "popular" variety.

Raleigh Downtown Live just got lots cooler: Joan Jett!

Bookmark and Share

Raleigh Downtown Live has certainly taken its lumps in recent years for how many retreads and burnouts play the series. But they just confirmed a terrific headliner for July 11 -- the ageless Joan Jett, in her first Triangle performance since the 2006 Vans Warped tour. Yes, her commercial peak was three decades ago. But she still brings it.

Never been to a downtown

Never been to a downtown live show but this might be my first. I have never seen her live but from all accounts (and as you said) she still brings it.

jousting outfit

5 yrs ago at bottom of the hill Joan was laced with tatoo's, had a short crop of spiky black hair, some sorta see thru metallic mesh tank top, and leather pants..... she had a great sound, one of my all time fave and memorable shows.... bark for me little darlin'.... matt

red collar would be the perfect local band to open a black hearts show.... she should really co-headline with the devil does Georgia guy....that would be somethin!

D'oh!

D'oh! ~Is~ she still a red head?

Red head?

Your guess is as good as mine -- we'll find out when she gets here.

I she still a red head?

I she still a red head?
