News & Observer music critic David Menconi's random (and we do mean random) musings about all things related to music and culture of the "popular" variety.
If you're looking for a radio station that's free-form but leans toward jazz, man, are you ever in luck. Say howdy and lend an ear to taintradio.org -- an online station that debuted last week with the slogan, "We're revolting," playing everything from spoken-word master Ken Nordine to African superstar Youssou N'Dour. Bob Rogers and Dave Tilley, longtime public-radio fixtures in the Triangle, are among the ringleaders; and for now, at least, the all-volunteer station's sole source of income is an online tip jar.
Anyway, take a listen...

Thu, 07/03/2008 - 18:11 — johndjThanks for the mention - this is radio as it should be, and perhaps never has been. And as I say at my post on www.raleighrambles.com, you have no frigging idea what might be coming next - not because it's random, but because the wonderful contributor djs are hooking us up with stuff we didn't know about but are loving to hear.
