On the Beat: David Menconi on music

News & Observer music critic David Menconi's random (and we do mean random) musings about all things related to music and culture of the "popular" variety.

Monday night on WKNC: The AfterHours reunion

Electronic music has been a night-time staple on WKNC, 88.1-FM, for more than a decade with the AfterHours show -- long enough for the deejays who founded the show in the late '90s to graduate from NC State and move on. But two of those deejays, Steven Brown and Ben Thomas, still come back to Raleigh every year for the holidays; and while they're in town, they do an "AfterHours Reunion Show." The 10-year-anniversary edition happens Monday night, from 6 p.m. to midnight.

"Our focus is electronic music in its many forms," says Brown, "and I can safely say that you will not find another show quite like this on the radio dial."
