Laura Veirs has an evil twin

Bookmark and Share

Singer/songwriter Laura Veirs and banjo player Abigail Washburn don't sound a thing like each other. And yet they share a very peculiar set of coincidental circumstances. Veirs grew up in Colorado Springs, Colo., where her father taught at Colorado College -- which Washburn attended. And Washburn studied (and sings in) Mandarin Chinese, a language Veirs also studied in college.

"Yeah, we're like each other's dopplegangers," Veirs said with a laugh in a recent phone chat. "There's a whole lot of things -- Colorado College, Mandarin Chinese, we both play banjo. The list goes on."

For some talk about Veirs' wonderful new album and details on her Chapel Hill show, see the story in Friday's paper.

Ummm...

With the Great 8 show at Local 506 being canceled, and David not posting since Friday, I'm worried that he's the latest N&O staffer to be tossed off the sinking ship. Someone please say it ain't so.

Ummm...

It ain't so. I was on vacation last week; did have a few posts that automatically went up in my absence -- but activity here was scarce, yes. Fear not, Great 8 is coming sometime in March. What the future will bring, I can't say. For now, however, my employee ID is still getting me inside the building.
