On the Beat

On the Beat: David Menconi on music

News & Observer music critic David Menconi's random (and we do mean random) musings about all things related to music and culture of the "popular" variety.

James Taylor going to Carolina -- not just in his mind

Bookmark and Share

The rumors are true -- James Taylor will play five free concerts in North Carolina next week on behalf of the Obama campaign. Times, venues and tickets are still being worked out. But the days and cities go like this:

Sunday -- Charlotte, Asheville
Monday -- Chapel Hill
Tuesday -- Raleigh, Wilmington

Word on the street is that the Raleigh show will be noon Tuesday at Moore Square. Further details to come.

Jame Taylor

I only watched him live once,  His a good artist.  Really good with the guitar.. so smooth... :)

Great!

I can't be there physically but will be there in spirit!

Hope he says some kind words in support of Kay Hagan she could use the support!

Shower the people...

It simply amazes me that anyone could continue to support McCain, a warmonger who doesn't care if the US stays in Iraq for "100 years", who WAS one of the Keating 5 and therefore responsible for ordinary people losing their life savings, who can scarcely conceal his prejudice and scorn for others, let alone his anger...and Palin, who is married to a secessionist, has praised the work of the AIP who helped get her elected, who supports the barbaric killing of wildlife, who would overturn the rights of women so that they will end up dying in back-street abortions...the list is endless. In contrast, Obama is intelligent, articulate, calm, compassionate and inspiring.
No wonder so many eminent people support Obama and that around the world he is so respected. It's great that James Taylor is doing these concerts and that this state is finally shedding its redneck status.

JT Concers

Don't know why he would waste his time playing for a bunch of redneck morons like yourselves!

To the

To the "M.Anderson" blogger...your blog is just another example of unethical behavior by McCain/Palin supporters (comment by M Anderson {not verified} under title "JT Concers" posted WEd. 10/15/2008 18:10).....ie: the childish "playground-type" name-calling and why Obama is seen as more mature than McCain or Palin (respectful of others) with his supporters responding in the same manner.             ...Just MIGHT be one of the many reasons why he is so ahead in the polls.  Think before you embarass yourself.

Unethical behavior to call

Unethical behavior to call others names as was done in the "JT Concers" blog above by M Anderson (not verified).  Just another example of the maturity of Obama supporters who don't lower themselves to follow in your path of childish "playground-type" behaviors such as name-calling.

M. Anderson

Before you start calling people "redneck morons", you might want to spell the word "concerts" correctly, you idiot.

Obama and NC

I'll be there along with the tens of thousands of other NC voters who will help Obama in NC. If this is a red state, why do you think McCain and Palin are spending time, money and resources here? This state should have been locked up months ago. Now, they are scrambling. HAHA

Maybe, McCain could host a big band concert or a waltz or something?

all the liberal celebrities

all the liberal celebrities can keep pushing in NC but it is a waste of time, NC will vote Republican as a majority

Always Was A Smart Fellow

I like the way endorsements by musicians make some people whine. Many of the other 'red' states are getting closer as well. I think there will be a few surprises on Nov. 4th.

 One Love!

JT Concert

I like James Taylor and would love to see another of his concerts, but will not attend anything having to do with Obama.

won't be there...

Moore square...will the acorn folk be there to register the "undecided" citizens??!
