This was already shaping up as an epic weekend for local club closings, what with the Berkeley Cafe's big music hall in Raleigh set to shut down after Saturday night's Southern Culture on the Skids show. But now comes word that Durham's Broad Street Cafe is also closing after this weekend. Co-owner John Hite sent out a message Friday morning laying out the news:
It truly has been a joy and a pleasure, so it is not without the bittersweet that we write to inform you that as of the close of business on Sunday night, June 30, 2013, we are serving up our last wood fired pizza and closing the Café. The restaurant is for sale and we are working diligently to find a buyer for the restaurant that will bring a fun, if different, flavor to our funky little part of Durham.
After five wonderful, wacky, always interesting years, Anna, John, Darin and I made the not so easy decision that our lives, though still firmly entrenched in the Bull City, are calling us to move forward…
We truly have loved sharing this ride with you.
Live music is booked for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, so there's still a chance to drop in and order up one last pizza while paying respects.
