The city of Raleigh is making progress on its new downtown outdoor concert venue, which even has a name now. At least for the time being, it's the Raleigh Boutique Amphitheatre. Take a drive by the space just west of the convention center and you'll see earth being moved around. And they'd better keep at it because actual concert dates are starting to pop up on the schedule. Paramore will play there on July 23, with Tegan and Sara as opening act; and O.A.R. (which played Cary's Booth Amphitheatre last year) is penciled in for an Aug. 10 date with Citizen Cope opening.
UPDATE from Doug Grissom, assistant director of the Raleigh Convention Center: "There's been a lot of discussion about the name. Whatever it's called right now is just a placeholder until we can get a title sponsor. In the meantime, we decided to change it to what was put into the City Council minutes when it was voted on, the Raleigh Amphitheatre and Festival Site."

Downtown Amphitheater

Naming
Thu, 03/25/2010 - 16:04 — rossgradyThat's funny -- side-by-side in my newsreader with your blog post, I find a post from JSeaton at music.mync.com, which says "Meanwhile, there’s been some confusion in regard to the name of the downtown venue. While concert promoters are referring to it as the Raleigh Boutique Amphitheatre, City of Raleigh public affairs Director Jayne Kirkpatrick says the correct name is the Raleigh Amphitheatre and Festival Site."
So what's it gonna be?
NAMING
Thu, 03/25/2010 - 16:31 — dmenconi (author)Well, it's turning up in Pollstar and on various Web sites as RBA -- but I'm thinking either that or RAaFS will be just a temporary placeolder until they sell the naming rights. I've been trying (unsuccessfully) all week to reach Roger Krupa with the city; when I do, perhaps he can illuminate things...
