Coming to the NC State Fair: The Possum

Bookmark and Share

The North Carolina State Fair has unveiled its 2011 concert lineup for Dorton Arena, and it has all the usual elements. There are a couple of Christian-pop acts, plus country groups you've never heard of even though they've won a bunch of awards; an "American Idol" alumnus; a burned-out classic-rock band; plus a partridge, pear tree, expatriate local Tift Merritt, classy oldie Dionne Warwick and the most attention-getting name of all, one of the biggest danged legends in country music -- the great George Jones.

One act is still to be announced, but here's what we've got so far:

Oct. 13 -- Craig Campbell, $5
Oct. 14 -- Skillet, $15
Oct. 15 -- TBA
Oct. 16 -- Tift Merritt, $5
Oct. 17 -- Steel Magnolia, $5
Oct. 18 -- George Jones, $10
Oct. 19 -- David Nail, $5
Oct. 20 -- Dionne Warwick, $10
Oct. 21 -- Newsboys, $10
Oct. 22 -- Kansas, $10
Oct. 23 -- Kellie Pickler, $15

What!!

Kellie Pickler tickets are $5 higher than George Jones?  Are these people insane??  Kellie Pickler is going to be a footnote somewhere, at best.  The Possum is a legend.

Sad times we're living in, for sure.

Yes, sad times, but you're the reason

Let me get this straight.

You're complaining that the act that you want to see costs LESS than one you don't want to see?

And you think that gives you a right to trash the other person?

About George Jones -- you've got that right!

Selling Kellie Pickler tickets higher than George Jones is like selling roasted peanuts for $20 a lb and Belgian Chocolate $2 a lb. There's absolutely no comparison betweeen the two. Personally, if the sound were  not so horrific in the concert arena, I would pays $20 to see George Jones.

Same question

Again, same question:

If the act you want to see costs LESS than one you don't want to see, and both are insanely cheap, WHY ARE YOU COMPLAINING?

And why do you think that gives you the right to trash someone you know nothing about? That's really not very classy, now is it?

I bet you're one of those old-timers that talk about how you were "raised right" and all that, but you clearly abandoned the Golden Rule a long time ago if you go around bashing people for no reason at all

Maybe One Day...

I wish the NC State Fair would have taken a cue from the SC State Fair and brought in The Avett Brothers.  Or at least showcase more artists with North Carolina ties.  But given the Fair's history of lackluster acts (I know, it's hard to bring in relevant talent for free/cheap shows), I'm not surprised.  But a boy can dream.
