News & Observer music critic David Menconi's random (and we do mean random) musings about all things related to music and culture of the "popular" variety.
Well, how about that. Not only does the Raleigh Downtown Live free-concert series already have its 2009 dates on the books, but the first act is lined up. That will be Seattle grunge band Candlebox (a triple-platinum act back in 1993) on May 30.
David Menconi has been the News & Observer's music critic since 1991. Before that, he spent five years at the Daily Camera in Boulder, Colo.; and before that, he earned a journalism masters degree from the University of Texas (on top of an English degree from Southwestern University).
