Phoenix flames Wolfpack

Bookmark and Share

Elon got a 5-3 win over N.C. State at Doak Field.

Wolfpack starter Zak Sinclair lasted only two innings, giving up two runs — one unearned — on three hits.

He was replaced by Alex Soggard in the third inning, but Soggard gave up a three-run home run to Cory Harrilchak in the top of the fourth inning, which gave the Phoenix (9-5) a 5-1 lead.

Harrilchak, whose blast hit the top of the right field wall before bouncing over, wound up 3-for-4 in the game.

And the best the Wolfpack (10-9) could counter with was two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, when Chris Schaeffer hit a long ball that also drove in Pat Ferguson, who had reached on a throwing error.
