Wilson's Mills native Jerry Sands will be with the Los Angeles Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate in Albuquerque, N.M., to start the 2011 Minor League Baseball season.
The former Smithfield-Selma High standout had a solid spring training with the Dodgers' big league club, hitting .313 with two home runs and five RBIs in 32 at-bats.
Sands was third in the minors last season with 35 home runs between Single-A Great Lakes and Double-A Chattanooga with 68 total extra-base hits and 93 RBIs. He was recognized as the Dodgers' top minor league position player after the 2010 season.
The Isotopes, who open the season Thursday night against Omaha (Neb.), play in the Pacific Coast League and make their closest trip to Johnston County in late April when they play at Nashville, Tenn.
