ECU-UNC super regional to begin Saturday

North Carolina, the No. 4 national seed, will host in-state rival East Carolina in a best-of three NCAA super regional beginning on Saturday. The winner of the super regional will advance to the College World Series in Omaha, Neb.

Saturday's game is scheduled for noon at Boshamer Stadium and will be televised by ESPNU. Sunday's game starts at noon at will be aired by ESPN. Monday's game, if necessary, will be played at either 1 p.m. or 7 p.m. and shown on either ESPN or ESPN2.

East Carolina (46-18) battled back through the loser's bracket to win the regional in Greenville, defeating South Carolina 10-9 in 10 innings on Monday night. The host Pirates fell behind 6-0 against the Gamecocks and trailed 9-6 entering the bottom of the ninth inning.

Devin Harris hit a three-run homer in the ninth and then delivered a game-winning single in the 10th inning for the Pirates, who had to play five games in three games to win the title at Clark-LeClair Stadiium.

North Carolina (45-16) won three straight games over the weekend to claim the title at the Chapel Hill regional. The Tar Heels will be trying to earn their fourth straight trip to Omaha.

North Carolina and East Carolina split a pair of regular-season games, each team winning at home.
