Eastern Wake Buzz

Change has become a constant in our world these days. All over the eastern Wake County region the landscape is changing. But one thing remains the same. We still share a strong common interest in what’s happening in our community. The Eastern Wake News blog -- now called the Eastern Wake Buzz -- is the place to go to learn about the changes taking place in our part of the world and to share your thoughts on the news of the day. Regular entries are posted by news staffers Brian High, Aaron Moody, Denise Sherman and Johnny Whitfield. We’d love to share the latest buzz with you. You can call Wendell Elizabethtown West.

After Wendell commissioners gave the go-ahead to create a new public works director job for the town, Manager David Bone didn't have to look too far for his first choice.

Bone announced last night the hiring of Alton Bryant, the public services director in Elizabethtown.

You may remember that Elizabethtown is where Wendell plucked Bone from last fall.

Bryant is a veteran of public works and insfrastucture-type work. An engineer by training, he has worked in utility construction, utility management and in the natural gas industry over a career that spans 25 years.

As Wendell's Public Works Director, Bryant will work with developers and other town staff to make sure that infrastructure projects are done properly. He'll also oversee everything from maintenance of the town's vehicle fleet to issues with the City of Raleigh which provides Wendell's water supply.

Bone says one of the best things about Bryant is his ability to talk about dense technical matters in a way the average person can understand them. And here's another interesting little tidbit. His two sons play football for Harvard, both as left defensive end. One starts, the other is his backup.

Bryant will begin work Sept. 22. He was chosen from a pool of 30 applicants.
