UNC's Thorp: 'Plan right now' is for Davis to remain coach
Submitted by eferreri on 09/10/2010 - 15:15CHAPEL HILL – UNC chancellor Holden Thorp said today that “the plan right now” is for Butch Davis to remain the Tar Heels’ head football coach next season.
UNC is currently involved in a two-pronged investigation. The NCAA is looking into whether football players have had improper contact with sports agents; while the school is looking into possible academic misconduct centered around whether a tutor – who worked for both UNC and Davis – gave improper help on papers.
Asked, prior to a meeting with UNC’s faculty, if he could definitively say that Davis would remain as the football coach, Thorp began his response by saying it wasn’t a fair question. Then he added: "Competitive, big-time football is a hazardous undertaking, but the plan right now is for him to be the coach next year. He's done everything we've asked him to do to get to the bottom of this, and we're pleased with him."
