RALEIGH — Take that, Pirates.

N.C. State knocked off No. 15 ECU, 30-24 in overtime on Saturday spoiling ECU's strong start and dreams of a BCS bowl.

Andre Brown's 10-yard touchdown run in overtime capped the Wolfpack's comeback and charged life into a program in need of hope after a poor start to the season.

Shea McKeen sacked ECU quarterback Patrick Pinkney and forced a fumble on ECU's only possession of overtime.

Two long runs by Brown and State had its upset in overtime.

Russell Wilson threw three touchdowns passes, the final one with 1:12 left in regulation to give State its second straight win over the Pirates.

Wilson's third touchdown pass, a 5-yarder to tight end George Bryan, tied the game at 24.

N.C. State (2-2) overcome two pivotal turnovers, both by quarterback Harrison Beck.

Wilson hit Bryan over the middle for an apparent touchdown. The umpire ruled the pass incomplete, the line judge ruled it a catch.

Replay confirmed the line judge's call — Bryan trapped the ball against his knee, not the ground — to give State the touchdown.

ECUs first touchdown came on a 23-yard interception return by Van Eskridge off a pass from Beck.

Patrick Pinkney's 39-yard touchdown pass to Davon Drew was the Pirates' first offensive score. Norman Whitley's 42-yard touchdown run put ECU back in front, 21-14.

A 41-yard field goay by Josh Czajkowski cut ECU's lead to 21-17 at 1:10 in the third.

ECU had a chance to extend its lead with first-and-goal from the 4-yard line. State's defense held on four tries, the last, a big hit by Robbie Leonard on ECU running back Brandon Simmons.

Curious decision by ECU coach Skip Holtz with a four-point lead to go for the TD, instead of the short field goal and a seven-point lead.

With a second chance, Holtz went for the short field goal, a  21-yarder by Ben Ryan at 4:27 to give ECU a 24-17 lead.

State's offense showed life for the first time this season under Wilson. His four-yard touchdown pass to Andre Brown tied the game at 7 at 14:53 in the second quarter.

But O'Brien turned to Beck early in the game in passing situations. Beck, who led State to its only win of the season, on third down on the first two possessions of the game.

On the second possession, Beck threw the ball behind Jay Smith and it tipped off Smith's hands to Eskridge, who returned it 23 yards.

Wilson led State's scoring drive, set up by a bad punt, with
completions to the returning Jamelle Eugene, and a scramble on fourth down to keep the drive alive.

After a muffed exchange between Wilson and Brown on first down, State got on the board with Wilson avoiding ECU's rush and hitting Brown in the back of the end zone.

State's offense had gone 227 snaps without scoring a touchdown against a Division I-A opponent.

Beck returned on the final possession of the half, leading the
offense down to ECU's 15-yard line but fumbled on a fourth-and-1 run. Beck's keeper got the first down with 39 seconds left in the half but he fumbled after his second effort.

Beck finished 3 of 8 for 47 yards with the interception and fumble. Wilson was 21 of 31 for 209 yards with three touchdowns and 27 yards on the ground.

Contrary to popular pre-grame opinion, red still ruled at Carter-Finley Stadium. There were pockets of purple, notably in the end zone underneath the Murphy Center, but it was not the fan takeover that was expected.

Pack beats the Pirates

Great win for the Pack. As you may recall, this is the same Pirate team that beat the Hokies in Blacksburg. Hokies whipped UNC today in Chapel Hill, so the game is now on. As a Pack fan, I can not wait to beat the Heels again this year.

hye guy, not that it really

hye guy, not that it really matters, but this is the second time you have said ECU beat VT in Blacksburg.  ECU beat them in Charlotte.

yeah, that guy doesn't seem

yeah, that guy doesn't seem too bright

A bit premature

Come on, a couple of wins over two teams that were over-rated, a struggle against Tulane, and a loss to a undermanned and not-very-good State team should end the ridiculous talk. What would happen against a real BCS team? Do you really want to see it?!?!?

Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey! E-C You look soooo BAD to me!

ARRRRRRR

ARRRRRE you pirates ready for some ACC Football? You will get no respect after this game. I hope you enjoy your ride back to Greenville.

GreenvillehighschoolfootballplayerbeatsrankedECU

The runningback for NCSTATE went to high school in Greenville. Fun fact of the day.

And he had the good mind to

And he had the good mind to go to NCSU!

fun fact

Theres not a soul, on either side, that doesnt know he played at Greenville Rose.

lowering the flag from the bow!

I've got a little following here at ACCNOW!! love it!!

anyway, no excuses. NCSU outplayed the Pirates in all phases of the game even though they never had the lead till it mattered. this was a real head scratcher. Pirates really arent that good. they proved it today on the field.

enjoy your victory State fans!

yep gvillegatr, i love to

yep gvillegatr, i love to hate ya ;)

it's all in fun though, good luck next week

Um...yeah, state didn't

Um...yeah, state didn't outplay ecu in all phases of the game...both teams played bad the whole game, up until the end.  and don't give me this crap about ECU is not that good....one loss doesn't mean anything, and we have beat 2 top 25 teams this season...state will be lucky if they win 2 more games, and probably wo't go to a bowl and ECU will.  So Shut it gvillegatr...are you a gator fan or what???  why are you even talking in this blog?

gville stands for

gville stands for GREENVILLE as in Greenville, NC dumbarse.  it was the name of my fantasy football team back in the late 90's and it just stuck.

ECU is not that good.  VT and WVa (literally not) are not that good.  believe what you want to.

the only thing you got correct is NCSU not winnning more than 2 more games.  thye certainly wont be favored in any of them ... not that they were favored yesterday either, so anything is possible.

Re: Um...yeah

Nice, logical, well-written response.

 Or not.

State was the better team, all day, without question.  Take away the early bad-bounce pick-6, and there just aren't many highlights for the purple helmets.

There were just as many ECU

There were just as many ECU highlights as were state, seeing as how the score was tied, it was back and fourth all day, so really neither team out played one another until the end, the rest of the game was pretty much the same.  two teams playing bad and alternating scores.

Sad to loose but it was a good game

Both teams played hard. The Pack played harder and won. At least the heels lost ;)

As a Pirate fan,  I think a non-conference loss maybe a good thing.  ECU is not good enough after losing Cotton to go undefeated.    They need to worry more about their conference schedule and less about the BCS or excessive hype.   The Pirates need to learn how to be the favorite and not rely on underdog emotion to win.

Finally some peace and quiet

All I've heard is MOUTH MOUTH MOUTH from ECU fans for two freakin' weeks. Finally, they will shut up.

Sorry Pirates, but you played a lousy game last week against Tulane (two interceptions, two fumbles) but managed a win. The same poor play cost you the game this time.

This so-called "rivalry" that ECU so badly wants is beginning to be fun, with 2 consecutive wins and 16-10 overall. Maybe Lee Fowler and Terry Holland will schedule another 7 or 8 years of it. LOL

state win

I would not say that NC State and ECU have the same talent. ECU does have a better team this year. FOr this game however, NC State did. ECU looked flat, almost to wiped out from their emotional victories. This was clearly more important for the wolfpack program than the pirate program today.

Wolfpack fans should enjoy it, Pirate fans should be upset, but then get over it. Is this the start of a Wolfpack turn around? Maybe maybe not, time will tell. But to say that the Pack is as good as the Pirates is a bit premature. Lets see how they do the rest of the season. Clearly, NC State wanted it more than the Pirates today.

where's gvillegatr??? hahaha

where's gvillegatr??? hahaha the wolfpack pull through just in time, and in dramatic fashion. couldn't have asked for anything better! eat you hearts out nay-sayers!

Great Game Wolfpack!!

Defense stills needs a little work tackling and Beck should not see the field again unless it is mop-up time. But WOW - what a game! Russell Wilson was huge!!! Defense came up big when we needed it. Great job Wolfpack!!!

ECU Just ANother Want to Be ACC Team

ECU will not be rank very high after a defeat by an NCSU team with a highly depleted roster due to injuries. They can also say good bye to a BCS bowl bid. Looks like a weak ACC team is better than a top ranked Conference USA team anyday.

Please, One game doesn't

Please, One game doesn't mean a thing, one loss does not mean that state is better then ECU, you have a lot to learn.  And ECU is not a want to be acc team...Why would we ant to be a wack ass confrence that doesn't get any respect...we are already in cusa, and at least we can dominate our own confrence, which ncsu can not do, and probably won't for a long while.

psh, you are a moron.

psh,

you are a moron.  there is no way you believe the manure you are slinging in these posts.  ECU would roll out the red carpet and anything else to get into the ACC.  you disgrace all ECU fans when you talk like this.  please leave.

#15 No More

NCSU Defeats ECU!!! NCSU line up has be depleted with injuries an still defeats ECU. Say Good Bye to a ECU bowl bid and top 25 ranking. GO PACK!

ECU a Flash in the Pan?

Given the fact that NCSU outgained and out time of possessioned ECU, and given ECU's performance last week, I think all the talk of BCS etc... should be muted.

When reason takes over, all will see that ECU beat a very overrated VaTech and WVa team. ECU is a pretty good team, but NCSU is not at the moment.

A BCS team would have dominated NCSU. ECU at best was evenly matched today.

Great win

Defense was terrific, especially after losing Nate. Russell Wilson continues to grow. How important was having Eugene back? Would Andre have been as strong as he was in OT without the rest he got during the game?

I think we have to be careful not to get too high after this win, but we can definitely enjoy it. This team will continue to get better each week. And all credit goes to Coach O'Brien for making decisions that give the Pack the best chance to win. Doubters can stay home.

I have to say that I hate

I have to say that I hate most all state fans, because they are obnoxious and disloyal, but you have written the most honest response a True State fan could ever write.  you didn't dis ECU nor did you mention them, and didn't make stupid comments like a lot of the other post on here.  and that is something that no other nscu fan could do.  Good Post!

disloyal? yeah right. you

disloyal? yeah right. you read any other posts recently? ya know, the ones about all the money the wolfpack boosters bring in every year no matter how the team performs? educate yourself before you try to talk smack

ok...I'll agree, not all

ok...I'll agree, not all state fans or disloyal, but most of them are...giving money doesn't mean you are loyal, it just means you have a lot of money to give, and it looks good.  the fact is there are a lot of state fans who are only state fans when they are winning.  I'd like to see how that stadium looks at the edn of the year, with losses to USF, BC, FSU, wake, unc and miami, state might be able to beat maryland, and duke.  then tell how me how loyal your fans are.

IhavetosayIhatemore

ECTC fans that write and believe the unintelligible dribble that psh0117 puts out. While he points out that (incorrectly as usual) that no other (great english) ncsu can write a post like the precious guy, he proves he can not write one at all.

State outplayed ECU until Pinkney' first TD pass, then held more than their own the rest  of hte day.

As far as being the worst team in the ACC, and that ECU didn't want to be in the ACC, it really doesn't matter what ECU wants ... the ACC decides on who they want in their conference.

As far as State not winning two moe games this year, I think they can end up with seven wins.

disloyal?!

I have nothing against ECU fans here, let that be said.  My mom is an ECU alumnus, as well as her brother (who happens to be filthy rich in the oil business).  However, to say that State fans are disloyal is wayyy off the mark.  How about 8 STRAIGHT sellout years at Carter-Finley, despite going 5-7, 3-9, and 5-7 during those years.  How about packing the RBC center DESPITE a TERRIBLE 14-16 last year.  State fans are known for being loyal to the core and always in support of the Pack.  I'll take obnoxious...even rude and crude, but ALL fans are obnoxious (except maybe Duke football fans).  How about ECU TRASHING OUR field after beating Miami?  That would normally fall under obnoxious.  However, you want disloyalty, try visiting the powder blue fairies in Crappel Hell.  A blog post this afternoon was already counting down the days to basketball season.

Brian, 2 things

Brian,

2 things here.

1.) NCSU doesnt pack the RBC for basketball games so, please, dont tell us they do.  I could walk up to the ticket counter mins before a game and purchase a ticket unless it is UNC or DUIke.

2.) no UNC fan posted anything about basketball starting ... that was a NCSU fan saying something along the lines all UNC fans have to look forward to now is basketball.

p.s.  what does your uncle being filthy rich and in the oil business have to do with accnow??
