N.C. State is back in the Associated Press weekly football poll for the first time since the Philip Rivers era.
With a 45-28 win at Georgia Tech on Saturday, the 4-0 Wolfpack moved into the No. 23 slot. At No. 25 is the Nevada Wolf Pack, which last made an AP poll appearance in 1948.
Alabama, Ohio State and Boise State remain 1-2-3, but Texas fell from No. 7 to No. 21 after its stunning loss to UCLA.
Other than State, the ACC has one ranked team _ Miami at No. 16 after its Thursday night win over Pittsburgh.
Florida State and Clemson received votes.
State was last in the AP rankings in 2003, Rivers’ final season.

Mon, 09/27/2010 - 15:36 — JPDOhioMy YSU Penguins also cracked the Top 20 in 1-AA this week.
Here's hoping this lasts beyond next weekend.
Congratulations Wolfpack
Mon, 09/27/2010 - 06:31 — Golden_WhiteGood game last Saturday @ Bobby Dodd.
Congratulations to your team and fans on
your victory. I hope to see you keep
climbing in the polls. Now if GT can
correct some of their problems and we
could get a few lucky breaks maybe we
could meet up again in the ACCCG.
Just about right
Sun, 09/26/2010 - 20:35 — JPDOhioI expected the Pack to get some consideration after the GT win. Looking at the teams above and below them in the rankings, they are in just the right spot.
Looking forward to where JP put them in his ballot (if anywhere).
Rodney Dangerfield
Sun, 09/26/2010 - 17:52 — YAR8packWould've much rather had State been able to issue the patented Rodney Dangerfield complaint.
To stay the underdog....you must lose!
Sun, 09/26/2010 - 22:10 — ciscopack#23 ain't the goal!!! Keep working.
Je sais
Mon, 09/27/2010 - 09:46 — YAR8packI know that. Beating VT is the current goal. And beating whomever comes next will be the goal after that.
However, we all know how kids today lust after anything that may provide an inkling of glorification. I much prefer a team that hasn't got any "love" from the media in a while to not be ranked until halfway thru the season if they so deserve it. I'd rather the Wolfpack team not be ranked now so they can use that as fuel for feeling slighted and want to prove something against a VT team that seems to have righted itself.
Just worried about egos swelling in Raleigh without just cause.
OK GO STATE!!!

Mon, 09/27/2010 - 12:27 — unc098RW and with his senior leadership and TOB's conservative style the Pack should be able to focus for this weekend. No doubt this is a big game, but if the Pack continues to do a good job of listening to their coaches they will be fine. But your right these are kids after all and this is college ball and therefore unpredictable. Its why we love it so.

Mon, 09/27/2010 - 14:07 — JPDOhioMy only other language is Latin, which is dead to the world and to me. So, in English, I will agree that the TOB and RW influence (Nate Irving too, I think) will help keep the egos in check. I will admit to feeling the same angst about cracking the Top 25 for the first time and the negative affect that could have.
As inspired as this team is playing (and no doubt, emotion is a big part of it), they seem much more business-like than before. So I believe it will be easier for them to overcome the natural tendency to start feeling too good about themselves. Those late charges by Cincy and GT should be reminders too.
Now, if the Chest was still the head coach, multiple heads would be exploding on State's campus as we speak. Then again, maybe not, because it is likely they would not be 4-0 at this juncture.
yeah I did four years of
Mon, 09/27/2010 - 17:23 — unc098yeah I did four years of that in high school and barely remember a thing about it. It is helpful in the world of vocabulary. Your point about the late charges is well taken. The good thing is that State is capable of putting points on the board in a hurry. Its going to be a great game. Just wish it was at noon.

Exactly; I actually watched
Sun, 09/26/2010 - 17:33 — unc098Exactly; I actually watched the second half of the State game and didn't even see the Heel's game. I am a big RW fan as I have stated from the get go. I am true Blue to the max but I admire what RW is doing and think he is by far the best QB to grace the ACC in quite some time. I really enjoy watching this dude play.

NCSU 23 in AP Poll
Sun, 09/26/2010 - 16:41 — ViperRetWhat a great start. Red Hats off to TOB and the team. His post game interview was also positive. The coach actually had some emotion and excitement (ok just a LITTLE) in his voice. The team is coming along....still some rough edges and places for improvement, but a great start. Not delusional about going X & 0, but you have to give your best effort each weekend and keep on improving.
This will definitely not set well in certain other areas where this is REaD, but I guess that you can really be BLUE about certain things.
GO PACK....VT is next.
Congrats to the Wolfpack, and their fans --
Sun, 09/26/2010 - 17:16 — SFPNCNativeFrom a BLUE fan, in your comment above. Some of us are quite civil, you know. Watched the game, and was glad to see State win!!
