GREENSBORO, Ga. — When Miami recruited junior tackle Jason Fox, a losing season wasn't in the plans. ACC title games, BCS bowls, or a national title, maybe but 5-7?
That's a far drop for a program that began the decade with a two-year record of 23-1, including a national title in 2001, and has gone 12-13 the past two seasons.
"I came to Miami to win games," Fox said.
Trying to explain the Canes' drop from elite status does keep Fox up at night. The combination of coaching changes, an inept offense, a downturn in recruiting under former coach Larry Coker all take a part of the blame but Fox is at a loss for an explanation.
"I've been over that scenario a hundred times in my head and I can't even give myself a straight answer," Fox said. "All I know is compared to the past two seasons, I feel a lot more confident now than I did then."
