RALEIGH — Russell Wilson's magic has N.C. State bowling for the first time since 2005.

Wilson's two touchdown passes and a spectacular touchdown run led the Wolfpack a 38-28 win over Miami.

State began the ACC season 0-4 but closed 4-0 with Wilson's impeccable decision-making and knack for the big play.

The freshman quarterback finished the game with 220 yards passing and 58 rushing. He hasn't thrown an interception in 226 attempts (at Clemson on Sept. 13).

State, 6-6, will have to wait until after the ACC Championship Game on Dec. 6 to find out their bowl destination but with the hot finish and perhaps the ACC's best player, the Wolfpack will find a postseason home.

Charlotte (Dec. 27 vs. Big East team) and Washington (Dec. 20 vs. Navy) are the bowl slots that make the most sense for State, but at 4-4, the Wolfpack is eligible to be selected for any ACC tie-in except the Orange Bowl.

"To be in the situation we were in and to overcome everything this team has had to overcome, it's almost mind-boggling to think we're at this point right now," State coach Tom O'Brien said. "We're playing the best of any team in this conference."

Wilson did everything humanly possible to get them there. His 32-yard touchdown pass to Owen Spencer, and 2-point conversion to Jamelle Eugene, allowed State to regain a 28-21 lead.

N.C. State was trading field goals for touchdowns and paying for it. Josh Czajkowski finished with three field goals.

Miami led 21-20 at 6:58 in the third quarter after Javarris James' second touchdown run.

State had first-and-goal on two possessions, but settled for field goals. State led 17-14 and 20-14 but James' second TD erased the advantage.

Miami's penchant for the big play is offsetting a huge ground game by Wilson.

Wilson weaved through the Miami defense for a spectacular 29-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and threw for a touchdown pass on the first quarter.

On second-and-26, after Wilson had bobbled the shotgun snap on first down, Wilson out-ran Miami's pressure to the right sideline, then cut back all the way across the field, speeding by Miami's secondary, with a nice block from receiver Owen Spencer for fourth rushing touchdown of the season.

A rare N.C. State interception gave Miami life and the lead.

James' 1-yard touchdown put the Canes in front of the Wolfpack 14-7 at 13:09 in the second quarter.

State hadn't throw an interception since the South Florida game, a span of six games.

Andre Brown attempted a halfback pass to Owen Spencer and was picked off by Miami safety Brandon Harris.

State's defense picked off Miami's two quarterbacks four times to make up for Brown's one mistake.

Miami, which had tied the game at 7 on the previous possession, drove 45 yards after the turnover to take its first lead of the game.

State came out breathing fire. Wilson led the Wolfpack on a 96-yard drive, capped with a 2-yard TD pass to Brown, to give State a 7-0 lead over Miami at 7:42 in the first quarter.

Wilson ran for 41 yards, including 29 on one scramble, to set up State's first touchdown.

Miami evened the score at 7 on Robert Marve's 69-yard touchdown pass to Dedrick Epps at 3:50 in the first quarter.

Coming off a 41-23 loss at Georgia Tech, the Canes were trying to recover from blowing the Coastal Division title in spectacular fashion on national television last Thursday.

Coach Randy Shannon started Marve at quarterback, despite the fact that Jacory Harris has repeatedly outplayed Marve. The Canes also started third-string running back Derron Thomas over Graig Cooper and James.

State of football in NC-bowl game please

Hi people: Let me first say I am an ACC football fan and not really a UNC or State or Duke fan etc. I appreciate you articles over the past two weeks but I am amazed at how much this city and NC State celebrate mediocrity. It is nice to see a talented young star in Russell Wilson do well, but NC State is not a winning football program. Mythical State Champs and by the way throw in William and Mary……they may be bowl eligible , but they do not deserve to go to a bowl over other programs in the ACC that actually have winning programs.

Clemson: 7-5 and destroyed South Carolina which beat State, and they beat State

Wake Forest beat a good Baylor club, and 2 SEC teams (Ole Miss that is going bowling) and Vandy (that will bowl and was ranked #12 at one time)

There is not doubt that State will be good next year..but to proclaim Russell Wilson ..the best player in the ACC…he isn’t even on a winning program…and he can’t touch what Riley Skinner has done. AS you know Riley came in as a freshman and took Wake (a program similar to Duke’s) and they not only won..and were ACC champs…they went to the Orange bowl……….

But then again……NC State is once again basking in their mediocrity….

Great finish for the Pack and the ACC

What an amazing performance by Russell Wilson and the Pack. What I like most about this team is the effort, unselfishness and discipline that they bring to every game. These qualities were seriously lacking under the previous regime. The future is truly bright for the Pack.

I believe the ACC as a whole is improving as well. Miami never quit yesterday, which is a testament to their new coaching staff. They are moving in the right direction. When you look at the improvements at UNC and Duke, and the surprising seasons that BC, Maryland and Ga Tech had, you can see a strong conference on the horizon. That's not even mentioning Va Tech, Clemson and Fla State, who will always have quality programs.

I am not sure that the ACC was treated fairly this year in terms of its strength as a conference. It still has some growing to do, but I am not sure it is as down as many would have you believe.

Close no Cigar Wolfpack?.....*

Great NCState gutty win over Miami. Now the question... Saturday puts the Pack at 6-6 but......... is it enough to score a bowl bid? There are 9 automatic bids for the ACC and 9 ACC teams with 7 wins or more. Pack has only 6 wins...... one of which was 1-AA. State will likely be scrambling, competing with a handful of teams who were left out in their conferences- looking to find a back-door into a bowl lacking a qualifier. After the great run. to get to .500 the real possibility exists NC State seniors have played their last game Saturday in CF.

Money matters

One of the main things Bowl committees look at is how well a team's fan base travels. NC State scores well in this area, so I think a bowl bid is pretty likely.

Wilson is amazing

Each week I'm more and more impressed with the play of R. Wilson. He is a threat on every play. He really has the ability to take over games. You can deff see his play making ability's on every play. I think NCST has found thier next (Rivers)

Terrific Turnaround for the Wolfpack Nation

What a seaon this has been. From the stumble at Columbia, to the triumph over the Pirates, to the annilation at home from South Florida, then strong efforts - yet defeats to Boston College, Florida State and at Maryland, to the successes against our in-state rivals and then the spanking of the Hurricanes - this has been a season of seasons. The best part has been watching both the team and the fan-base hang tough and evolve. How cool it was to see the stadium still filled after the game with so many students, players and alumni proudly singing the Alumni Song.Well done Wolfpackers!!!

I thought NCSU was gonna be penciled in to the DC bowl?

Here's hoping they go somewhere nice. Congrats on the win over Miami.

Gvillegatr, were you at this game? Tell us about it.

yea

yes, I was there.  NCSU played really well for most of the game.  The fans were really excited and rightfully so.

6-6 is not great by anybodys measure, but considering how awful the season started off, these fans will take it.

congrats on a great turnaround.  Russell has played as well as anyone over the last month and I believe Glennon and his parents are looking at other colleges as we speak.

4-0

Bowl game or no, they did an excellent job finishing the season. I'd have bet on 2-10 early on. Wins against ECU, UNC, Duke, Wake and Miami will make this a memorable season. GO PACK!

Too Many Bowl Games

There's so many bowl games these days that the Bowl Game for the SO-CALLED National Champion has lost it luster because it is played much later in January. I don't think any team with a 6 & 6 record is worthy of going to a bowl game. In my teens a team with a GOOD WINNING RECORD went to a bowl game while teams with SO-SO RECORDS (2 or 3 losses) stayed home. But no, now teams are being rewarded for not being a good team but rather for not being too bad of a team.

check the real record

Beat Carolina, they're going to a bowl game;  beat Wake Forest, they're going to a bowl game;  beat ECU, they're going to a bowl game;  beat Miami, they're going to a bowl game.   Yea, I think the Pack deserves to go to a bowl game at 6-6.

41-10

41-10

Spectacular way to finish

Spectacular way to finish the season! A fine bunch of people, coaches, trainers, assistants and players, came together and finished strong. When you couple a little good luck with hard work, determination and execution, anything is possible. Injuries happen, and you have to rise up. We did, and now we are bowl eligible, state champions, and heading into a bright future. Let me find my shades!

Great Season

This season I was expecting so little.  To finish the regular season the way we did was something great to watch.  This season has been the most enjoyable season I can remember for quite a while.  I love seeing the change TOB has brought to wolfpack football.  I see a team out there instead of a bunch of individual athletes like in the Chuck system.

Good Job Pack!  You've made us proud!!
