Why didn't Ginyard play for UNC?

Bookmark and Share

CHAPEL HILL — North Carolina senior Marcus Ginyard went through pre-game warm-ups, but did not play during the No. 3 Tar Heels' 108-70 victory on Wednesday against College of Charleston.

Why?

“I didn’t feel like playing him tonight; he’s been struggling quite a bit and he’s just not where we wanted him to be at that time and decided not to play him,’’ coach Roy Williams said.

Ginyard, one of the team's best defensive stoppers, had played in UNC's previous three games after undergoing left foot surgery in October. But both Williams and the player had been "concerned" about the player's slow movement on the court.

So he sat on the bench, also wearing a sleeve on his right leg to protect a lingering knee bruise.

Asked if Ginyard’s problems had to do with his previously broken foot, or getting back into game shape, Williams said: “It’s everything. Have you seen the offensive rebounds, have you seen the steals, have you seen the kinds of plays Marcus makes his living on? I haven’t either. So we’re trying to give him a little more time and see what happens.”

i said it

... b/c Coach Willimas took a long look in what I said the other day in the Carolina blog.

No disrespect to Ginyard, but someone of his stature simply is not good enough to come into a lineup, 7-8 weeks into the season, and expect not to screw it up b/c he is not a scorer.

I really wish he could red shirt and suit up next year, but even i'm not that big of an idiot ... he wants to hold some of the responsiblity for winning the national championship this season.
