That the ACC needs to begin this football season with a big win is as obvious as its 2-6 bowl record to cap 2007.
“No one was happy with that,” said Florida State coach Bobby Bowden. “We’re a better league than that. It’s time to turn over a new leaf.”
The trees along the East Coast haven’t yet started to shed leaves, but the ACC can’t afford to wait to show the sort of punch that Bowden and his league coaching cohorts want and fully expect.
The Seminoles won’t play until next weekend, but with Southern California at Virginia and Clemson in Atlanta to take on Alabama, there’s no time like the present for the league to get hot.
If nothing positive develops into those two, it will make little difference what happens when Boston College goes to Cleveland to face Kent State, or in Maryland’s game against visiting Delaware.
