First, James Johnson. Now, Jeff Teague.
Wake Forest is going to look a whole lot different next basketball season. Teague, a sophomore, announced Wednesday he would enter the NBA Draft but left the door open for a return. Teague won't hire an agent, which allows him to return to Wake if he's not happy with his draft status.
Wake went 24-7 and 11-5, good for second place in the ACC and a return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2005, with the trio of Teague, Johnson and Al-Farouq Aminu. All three are considered first-round picks in the NBA Draft.
Johnson's told a Wyoming newspaper last week he was leaving. Aminu, a freshman, is generally considered the top prospect of the three because of the combination of the size and ability to handle the ball.
Without Teague, Wake would need sophomore Gary Clark to step into the starting lineup with point guard Ish Smith, wing L.D. Williams, center Chas McFarland and one of their promising young forwards, either freshmen Tony Woods or Ty Walker or recruit Ari Stewart.
Teague averaged 18.8 points per game, to lead Wake in scoring, but his production waned in the second half of the season as Smith returned a foot injury.
Clark averaged 2.5 points in less than 8 minutes per game. Stewart, a 6-7 wing, is the only recruit committed from the class of 2009.

Jeff might as well go too,
Thu, 04/09/2009 - 11:29 — manamongstJeff might as well go too, you can tell he didn't fair too well with the typical ACC player scouting adjustments. He just floated around with that tyler hansborough autistic child look on his face...except he wasn't nearly as assertive as Tyler is. I just don't think he was there mentally in the second half. I do like our prospects but I am not holding much faith in Gary Clark, he could just get lost in the shuffle. The only two I am holding any faith in coming in are LD and Al Farouq...and he needs to improve his traffic dribbling...
Wake
