DURHAM — Rhode Island guard Jimmy Baron reminded plenty of Cameron faithful of former Duke guard J.J. Redick with eight 3-pointers in the Rams' loss to Duke on Sunday. Something about hitting several fadeaway 3s from 22, 25, 28 feet over the raised arms of the 6-8 Kyle Singler did it.
Turns out Baron is a Redick fan from way back. Rhode Island coach Jim Baron, father to the senior guard, had reached out to the Duke coaching staff several years ago looking for tape of drills that Redick, the top scorer in ACC history and the top 3-point shooter in NCAA history, ran at Duke.
Krzyzewski joked after the game, you can also hear it in this clip, that he wondered why they'd helped Baron out after a few of those long bombs. Baron finished with 24 points, all on 3s.
