UNC's press leaves Williams blue

CHAPEL HILL — Roy Williams is famous for his ability to substitute "F" words in his press conferences. The UNC coach has been known to dip into his lexicon for freakin', friggin' frickin' or flippin'.

But Williams let an expletive fly in his post-game press conference — and live on both the Tar Heel Radio Network and Wolfpack-Capitol Sports Network — after the Tar Heels' 89-80 win over N.C. State on Wednesday.

Williams was talking about his team's fullcourt press and its lack of execution.

"We stink," Williams said, talking about their fullcourt defense.

When asked why they stink, Williams calmly responded:

"If I knew the answer to that do you think we'd still be [expletive] stinkin'?"

After nervous laughter in the room, Williams apologized for using the curse word.

"I can't believe I said that," Williams said. "I only say that on the golf course."

This is not the first time Williams has been caught using blue language. After Kansas' loss to Syracuse in the 2003 national championship game, Williams, then Kansas' coach, said on CBS' live broadcast:

"I could give a [expletive] about North Carolina right now."

Sohbet

Oh I see and understand what he was talking about being press friendly. I had this problem when I was trying out back in the day at practice. Just stand there and not apply hard pressure on the ball. Press pressure was his problem with Carolina.

Does he deserve this much

Does he deserve this much criticism? Every person has his/her own view and unique style of expressing that.

friggin' funny

friggin' funny, hehe. Just a coach frustrated with his team's performance, nothing inappropriate about that.

Cursing

Whether cursing is appropriate at times and not at others I will leave to those who love the process of debate. In my opinion there are two things necessary to eliminate such from one's conversation: 1. Self discipline 2. There is no need for a second Self discipline, key characteristic of net cutters!

Press Friendly?

Oh I see and understand what he was talking about being press friendly. I had this problem when I was trying out back in the day at practice. Just stand there and not apply hard pressure on the ball. Press pressure was his problem with Carolina.

And now this cussin'??

Next thing you know, ol' Roy will get tats and an ear ring. He's a bad boy. I hadn't forgotten, "I could give a [expletive] about North Carolina right now." But I don't believe the "right now" part was actually included in that response..................And last year, he was boldly wearing a Kansas sticker on his chest at the Final Four??? What tha frack? Rock on, Roy!................Rock Chalk, Roy Hawk

I know I've been counseled at my job for of color comments.

I'm not a better or wors person for it. I doubt Williams is either.

Another SNAFU

Rumor has it that Roy didn't wear clean boxers either!!!!! What is this world coming to?

classic

aha... that's good stuff..

It was great!!

just got back into the truck after leaving Blue Heaven tonight and thats the first thing I hear!!! My buddy and I were like, "did he just say that!?" you could see everyone in Bowles Deck just laughing in unison after the shock had worn off!!

Eh. Just Roy being Roy.

Eh. Just Roy being Roy.

Roy's cussing

C'mon...everybody slips up every now and then. I mean, compare Roy, who's slipped up what, twice in six years, to someone like Bob Knight, who if he didn't cuss at least three times during a post-game press conference, the assembled scribes and broadcasters felt they didn't get their money's worth that night...or else Coach Knight must have been under the weather. And he even appologized for it afterwards...ever remember hearing General Bob appologize for it? Didn't think so. Don't exactly think he's going to be docked in pay for it.
