UNC's nonconference slate coming together

Tags: ACC Now | UNC

North Carolina still is "working out the details" with a couple more potential nonconference opponents for next basketball season, associate athletics director Larry Gallo said. But the majority of the Tar Heels' nonconference ACC foes are set:

* Carolina last season extended its series with Kentucky for two more years, meaning the early-season showdown will continue through 2011-12, at least. This year's game will return to the Smith Center.

* Junior forward Tyler Zeller's "home" game will be at Evansville, while sophomore Dexter Strickland will travel close to home again, when the Tar Heels play Rutgers at Madison Square Garden.

* UNC will play Texas at Greensboro Coliseum, plus home games against Charleston and Long Beach State. (The latter is a three-game deal, which would have allowed the Wear twins to eventually play a game near their home, had they not transferred.) Carolina will also travel to Illinois for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

* The Tar Heels also face a solid field at the Puerto Rico Tip-Off, Nov. 18-21. Joining them: Davidson, Hofstra, Minnesota, Nebraska, Vanderbilt, Western Kentucky and West Virginia.

The ACC usually announces its full schedule in late summer.

what to do?

Do I stay home and go to the UNC/state football game or do I pack the family up and head to PR to see the Heels play some hoops!? The Rio Grande is calling my name ....

At least they are fun

At least they are fun choices.

Tough Call

I guess it depends upon whether you want to witness just one beat down or several days worth.

Sorry, Gatr. Much as I tried to exercise restraint, I just couldn't help myself. Laughing

Unbiased read

Do you really think that both the UNC Football and Basketball teams will be that good this year? ;)

gOTTA Admit, Surfer

Well played.

Intellect

Thanks, your intellect is appreciated.

only you,

Mr D, could get away with such a statement.

I believe LaParilla is calling ....

UNC Athletics

igliigli, UNC is one of the few athletics departments in the country that actually posted a profit last year (figures for this year are not in yet). Athletics is completely self-funded and does not benefit from taxpayer money. I would also point you toward some university leaders who will tell you that exposure from college athletics actually helps with fundraising and recruiting.

what igliigli heard

igliigli, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

Well, to get back on topic..

UNC annually plays a pretty good OOC schedule. If they show well it will put them in line to also do well in conference. Although UK lost a lot, they're getting a lot. WVU should be good, too. Rutgers, while not great, should be a good road test.

DO AWAY with college sports?

and the billion $$$ ESPN contract all because of college sports...on the table

The ACC (et al) college campus would be like one in Kabul or Kandahar...if it were not for college sports $$$$$$ ,and for sure, the chicks would be back in Home Economics classes baking Red velvet cakes and frying scrapple.

UNC's non-conference slate coming together

UNC cannot afford to fix classroom roofs or pay its teachers, but still spends over a hundred million on sports. Long past time to fire all the coaches and get rid of the sports teams.

Fix classroom roofs?

WTF are you on?

Just igillig

Thats just igilli being igilli ..... "the little one-trick pony" doing what he/she does.

So far his/her determination to do away with college sports has yet to gain much traction albeit there are some legitimate concerns.

AGENT-PENIS!!
