CHAPEL HILL — North Carolina forward Tyler Hansbrough’s 15 points against Virginia on Saturday kept him on pace to break the ACC record for career points scored, currently held by former Duke guard J.J. Redick.
Hansbrough now has 2,587 career points, but whether he’s currently in second place, or tied for second, is up for debate — at least according to UNC.
The ACC lists Wake Forest’s Dickie Hemric — who scored 2,587 points from 1952-55 — second behind Redick, even though Hemric played two years when Wake was in the Southern Conference.
UNC doesn’t count Hemric’s total, team spokesman Steve Kirschner said, because the league isn’t consistent with who it has added to its lists over the years. Boston College’s Jared Dudley and Florida State’s Charlie Ward, for instance, didn’t have their statistics counted from before their respective teams entered the league.
Whichever side you fall on, Hansbrough will likely move into second place, alone, when UNC plays at Duke on Wednesday night. Redick scored 2,769 points from 2003-06; Hansbrough is on pace to pass him during the ACC Tournament.

He will become the ACC scoring leader and the postseason games count toward his total as usual. He currently needs 132 points to tie Redick and if we play at least 4 tournament games (win at least once in ACC and NCAA tournaments), he needs 16.5 ppg to tie Redick, which is something he does routinely. Even less if UNC plays more tournament games. What will UNC do without him? They will do what they did during the few games this year where Tyler was essentially shut down and scored very little, which was win the game without his points. Plus with next years lineup and recruits (one of which I'm sure will give Tiggermom more to pout about), Im not worried.

They have made him their hero for four years now, but next year they will have to survive w/o him. I hope he can keep his contacts in his eyes better than he has in the past. It is quite annoying when you have to stop a game b/c he lost a contact. It has become a running joke in the ACC.

I think Carolina will be able to deal w/ out Tyler Hansbrough. He is a vital part of Carolina, but he isnt all of Carolina. Next year i believe Carolina will be good no doubt, but not super good..
